In Pakistan the Dams are important for commercial fishing for mostly species belonging to carp and catfish family. Low water levels allow capture of fish which caught indiscriminately of size. Resulting in loss of both young and adult fish.

To deal with this government stocks these waters with hatchery born fish including some exotic species.In turn government awards contract for each water to major commercial fishermen on yearly basis. who tries to catch as many fish as he can in an year. Contractor also stops small independent fishermen from operating at all.

Fish is then shipped away to major cities to be sold in market. Considerable catch is lost due to poor storage on the way.

To deal with overfishing government should award contacts for multiple seasons. Stop stocking natural waters with exotic and destructive species like common carp and grass carp. Should protect breeding grounds of important game fish like mahseer from commercial fishermen. Should set size limits for fishing nets so that small fish can survive for multiple seasons.

March/April 2008 is start of fishing season here in Pakistan. The low water levels at most dams in country may have resulted in overfishing from commercial fishermen may reduced the stocks of game fish this year

I recently came to know that PTA has banned blogspot and some other blogging sites in Pakistan. This is absolutely sickening move and if goverment of pakistan claims that it is trying to promote IT sector in Pakistan, Then such moves are totally contrary to this claim

Most of us have heard maryland snakehead issue by now. What i fail to understand is fear of most anglers is fear similar to fear of terrorist attack. I understand that non native species are threat to native ecosystem. But there are hardly any waters in USA which are not stocked with non native game fish. The only difference is looks of snakehead is different and it is new game fish on the block. Speaking of non native species take brown trout as example many trout waters are stocked with this game fish and no body complains about it. I am sure even brown trout no matter how long ago it had been introduced is still threat to native ecosystem. I refuse to believe otherwise

The Pakistan game fish association (PGFA) is a best and most informative site on fishing in Pakistan. If any of you blokes want to go fishing anywhere in Pakistan. This is a place start looking for information on web. According to owner of this website there are some 700 registered members of PGFA. Most of these anglers are marine anglers based in Karachi Pakistan. But there are members from all over the world.

The information regarding Bili fishing off Karachi is pretty extensive. I heard the waters off Karachi especially small island called churna has some of the best big game fishing anywhere in the world. The game fish found off Karachi include four types of tuna including world famous yellowfin, Striped, Black and Blue marlin, Indo-pacific sailfish, Spearfish and swordfish, not to mention Cobia, Tarpon and Barramundi
